Have you ever asked yourself, “Do I Have Anything Worth Sharing?” Or maybe, “Why Should People Even Notice Me?”
If you’ve ever thought that you should blend into the background in the hopes of not being noticed, I have news for you. GOD WANTS YOU TO STAND OUT! As a Christian you have gifts, attributes, and qualities that need to be shared. The gospel of Matthew says this …
Matthew 5:15-16 -- "Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house. Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
You are a follower of Christ and the light of God actually shines through you. By generously sharing yourself with your fellow human beings you will improve people’s lives AND glorify God. The word of God does NOT tell you to take his gift of love, forgiveness, and joy and keep it to yourself. The book of Galations (6:2) says that we should carry each other’s burdens. And the gospel of John (15:12) says that we should love others like Jesus loved his disciples. To do ALL THAT we must be seen. We must stand out. And we must be noticed. But, of course, this will ALL be for the glory of God. Jesus did not call on us to be BLAND wallflowers blending into the background. In the gospel of Matthew (5:13), Jesus said we are the salt of the earth. And we all know that one of salt’s most important purposes is to add flavor. Every time we show kindness … every time we extend a loving hand … we are adding flavor to the world. The thought that the light of God shines through us is not just a pretty, poetic saying. The gospel of John says …
John 8:12 -- "Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life."
Jesus told us that we have the light of life inside us! Now imagine that light shining from you wherever you are and whatever you are doing. That’s a beautiful, empowering, and inspiring thought.
Put Your Light Under A Bushel? Never Again!
We have been given a tremendous gift as Christians. The light of God that we have been given is so much greater than us … so much bigger than us! Jesus has commended us to boldly share our light with others … to add flavor to the lives of everyone we meet. How can we willingly dim this light? As loyal followers of Jesus, very simply, it’s TIME FOR US TO SHINE!
