This verse describes the meaning of laying down your life. This phrase is commonly used as a way to describe someone who cares so deeply about someone else, that they would physically give their life for them. Jesus cared so deeply for his disciples, as well as anyone with faith, that he did in fact lay down his life, and died to save them. The phrase can also be interpreted as an act or service towards God. It is not enough to only sometimes lead a holy and faithful life. We must lay down our lives to serve and follow God on an everyday basis, so that we may be blessed by him and experience his eternal love.
