I’m this verse, when John refers to “little children,” he is addressing people who are new to faith and new followers of God. John explains that whatever sins they have perviously committed, because they are allowing themselves to become followers of the Lord, these sins will be forgiven. God’s mercy is never ending and he has the capacity to forgive all sins, and accept his followers for who they are even if they have made mistakes.
