In this verse, the apostle Paul is describing why the gospel should not be something people are ashamed of. Many Christians were being persecuted based off their beliefs. Some believed that following the gospel and heading its knowledge was acceptable, however that going on to preach God's teachings to others was unacceptable. Faith however, as Paul describes it is not something that any person should be ashamed of because believing in God and his wisdom becomes justified in the lives of those who follow him. Those who choose to be faithful are blessed, and they develop a relationship with God on their side.
