Have you seen The Chosen? It’s one of the biggest television phenomena in history!

The Chosen is the first multi-season television show ever produced about the life of Jesus. The number of viewers is also history making – over 100 million fans have been documented worldwide.

At the time of this writing, the first two seasons are available in their entirety with the third season releasing one episode every week. Seven seasons in all are planned.

Why This Reviewer Chooses The Chosen?

You’ll have to decide for yourself whether this show is for you or not. But this reviewer definitely finds the show worth watching.

What’s Special About The Chosen?

This show tells the story of Jesus’ life, often through the eyes of the apostles and others. Biblical events are captured. But, of course, Jesus’ entire life could not be captured completely in the Bible’s pages.

John 21:25
25  There are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they would all be written, I suppose that even the world itself wouldn’t have room for the books that would be written.

What about those little slices of life that could reveal something beautiful, sweet, funny, or sad. It’s those little moments that make this show so captivating and edifying. Are these slices of life Biblical? Often no. They are the creative imaginings of Dallas Jenkins – creator, director, and co-writer – and his team. But they do masterful job of capturing the spirit of possible moments in the life and times of Jesus and His disciples.

Some viewers, children or new Christians, may have not been exposed to much Biblical scripture. So, they might think scenes created from Jenkins’ imagination are Biblical. So, care must be taken when evaluating what is artful storytelling and what is Biblical truth.

For example, The Chosen presents Matthew as someone on the autism spectrum who has a savant-like capacity with numbers and logic. True? Probably not. But it does create an awareness of the intelligence that Matthew must have had to be a tax collector working with complicated numbers and finances.

The Chosen – Not Without Its Controversy

Some critics have suggested that Dan Jenkins has been influenced by the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This reviewer investigated that claim thoroughly and found it unjustified. Dallas Jenkins is a sincere, evangelical Christian.
