Kabbalah is an ancient Jewish wisdom that provides extra layers of meaning and understanding to Biblical truths. In this blog we have renowned and longtime Kabbalah student and teacher Billy Phillips. Billy has guest lectured at NASA on two occasions. These talks were given at the Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral, and the Goddard Space Flight Center located just outside Washington, DC.
During Billy’s ongoing studies and research, he has explored the spirituality and science connection with a wide range of luminaries, physicists, scholars, and world leaders including Nobel Laureate and physicist Arno Penzias, Michio Kaku, and US President Bill Clinton.
Question 1: Billy, the gospel of Luke (2:26) establishes that Jesus astounded rabbis with his knowledge of scripture. The gospel of John (7:15) also establishes that the amount of learning and wisdom that Jesus had was astounding. What was the wisdom and knowledge that Jesus would have been exposed to?
Answer 1: Jesus was a Jew. Period. And he knew what the greatest Rabbinical sages of Israel knew at that time; that there are two parts to the Torah (the Old Testament).
The early church fathers knew this as well. There is the literal meaning of the Old Testament and there is the spiritual secrets that were given to Moses (known as the Oral Tradition), during the giving of the second set of Tablets on Mount Sinai.
Even Paul explained this when he said that you do not give babies meat and adults do not drink milk from a bottle (1 Corinthians 3:2). In other words, the meat refers to the powerful secrets of the Bible and the baby’s milk refers to the literal meaning. According to the mystical sages of Judaism, Jesus was well versed in the spiritual secrets.
Question 2: Billy, the New Testament reveals that Jesus was known for using parables to convey spiritual truths. What made parables such an effective method for teaching to the masses?
Answer 2: There is a teaching found in the mystical, spiritual Oral Tradition of the Old Testament: You must conceal in order to reveal. In other words, a human being is first concealed in the womb of the mother before being revealed in the physical world. Electricity must be concealed in the cable and wires before revealing its power as light and heating in the physical world.
Every invention in history was first concealed in the mind of the inventor, before being revealed in the material world.
Parables are the concealment of great wisdom and power. By hearing the parable, you reveal the moral, the lesson, even the hidden wisdom, which is then made known to the soul and consciousness of the person listening to the parable.
