Have you ever heard fellow Christians call themselves an apologist? That doesn’t mean they go around apologizing about loving Christ.

An apologist – and the practice of apologetics – is about being prepared to defend the Christian faith and explain why one believes in Christ.

The word apologetics comes from the Greek word “apologia,” meaning defense. In other words, a Christian apologist looks for opportunities to defend and explain their faith to those who do not believe in Jesus or who are skeptical.

Jesus Gave Us The Command – The Apostle Peter Gave Us The Method

Christ Jesus gave us the command to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). And the Apostle Peter told us that to do this we must be ready to reason with atheists and non-believers in Christ.

1 Peter 3:15

What’s Your Goal As An Apologist?

When explaining and defending your Christian faith, your goal is not necessarily to convert the person immediately – though that would be wonderful. Instead, your goal should be to provide that person with reasonable food for thought. Your goal should be to give that person knowledge, reasons, and information that establish that Christianity makes sense and belief in Christianity is reasonable.

Isaiah 1:18
“Come now, and let’s reason together,” says Yahweh: “Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Simply put, blind faith is not an ingredient that builds Christian confidence … for yourself or others. Understanding – and the ability to express that understanding – helps to build stronger faith.
