Just about everyone wants to be chosen.
Can you remember how good it felt to be chosen by your spouse or a boyfriend or girlfriend? Or maybe you can remember how good it felt to be chosen over other candidates for the job you wanted?
And – of course – the more important the relationship, the better it feels to be chosen.
How wonderful for you to know that God has chosen YOU. The fact that you’re reading this now proves that YOUR heart has a desire for God. But that desire does not originate with you. God chose to ignite that fire in your heart. God chose to draw you closer by giving you a desire for Him.
John 15:16
You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
But God has blessed Christians with a desire for Christ that allows us to desire God and hear His voice. The Apostle Peter tells us that we are chosen (
1 Peter 1:1).
The Gospel of John tells us that we hear God’s voice because we are ALREADY one of Jesus’ sheep. This idea is a revelation. It’s not that we hear God’s word and then become His. We belong to Christ and that’s why His word resonates with us.
John 10:26-27
But you don’t believe, because you are not of my sheep, as I told you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
Scripture is clear …
God Has Chosen Us. So How Do We Respond To This Blessing?
When we think that God has chosen us and that by God’s faithfulness we have been called to Him, our response should be GRATITUDE.
Colossians 2:6-7
As therefore you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, even as you were taught, abounding in it in thanksgiving.
Another response should be daily prayer to acquire even more faith and desire to do God’s will.
Mark 9:23-24
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out with tears, “I believe. Help my unbelief!”
And, lastly, as it says in John 15:16, you should bear fruit. Some of that good fruit should be love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control
(Galatians 5:22-23).
Are you wondering why you got so lucky that God chose you? Don’t! Just accept this beautiful blessing with gratitude. After all, God doesn’t make mistakes.
