The Armor Of God Part 5 – The Helmet Of Salvation

Paul the Apostle tell us in Ephesians 6:13-16 to put on the whole armor of God that we may be able to put out Satan’s flaming darts.

When Satan fires his flaming darts, what would be one of his favorite targets?

Satan Fires At The Head, So Take The Helmet Of Salvation!

What better target for Satan than our heads. After all, isn’t that the favorite target in war. By protecting our heads, we protect our thoughts and our ability to think.

2 Corinthians 10:5
throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,

We are to bring every thought into obedience to Christ. Bad thinking produces bad results.

The Greek word for helmet is perikephalaia. The first part of the word – peri – means around. And the second part of the word – kephali – means head. We need to wrap our heads around the fact that when we choose Jesus as our savior, we are granted the unshakeable, unassailable gift of salvation.

Also, the Greek word for salvation is sotiría, which also means deliverance.

When we allow Satan’s darts to hit our head, we doubt our salvation! When that happens, our Christian lives suffer.

Romans 12:2
Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.

The Apostle Paul tells us to continually renew our minds. We can do this by reading God’s word, and through prayer and worship. Make renewal a daily part of your life to fully prepare for today’s battles.

We’re Not Putting On The Armor Of God – And The Helmet Of Salvation – To Win The War.
Jesus Already Did That!

Jesus has already defeated Satan. He did that with His death and resurrection. In John 10:28 we read how Jesus said that no one will snatch His followers out of His hand.

Romans 8:29
But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we will be saved from God’s wrath through him.

But even though the war against Satan is already won … we still have battles to fight. And one of those fights is to bring more people to Christ.

The Roman Soldier’s Helmet Identified What Army He Fought For.

The helmet’s design – through markings, colors, and shape – identified the soldier. Your helmet of salvation identifies you as a Christian. When people, especially those who are not yet born again, identify you through your words and deeds … it will help empower them to give their lives to Christ.

So, protect your thoughts and your thinking. The promise of salvation is the ultimate defense against the evil one’s darts.
