How To Deal With An Ever Changing World

Have you ever felt scared or nervous about the rapid changes happening in society and the world?

Many people today feel a sense of fear, uncertainty, and worry over the seemingly endless new challenges we face. There’s Covid, rising numbers of layoffs, the threat of Artificial Intelligence (AI) eliminating jobs, war (and the threat of war), and seemingly increasing natural disasters (like, earthquakes, hurricanes, and drought).

But as worrisome as all these changes are, we have reason to be joyful, peaceful and confident. We have God’s eternal love and promises. And we have the knowledge that God is unchanging (James 1:17).

Malachi 3:6
“For I, Yahweh, don’t change; therefore you, sons of Jacob, are not consumed.”

That’s right! God and Christ Jesus have not changed and never will (Hebrews 13:8). And that means God’s plan for humanity and His promises to us all will never change.

And no matter how troublesome some of the changes in the world seem, God’s promises give us the most beautiful and powerful hope, joy, and confidence.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

How can we let change bother us when we are guaranteed an eternity beside our Lord and Savior, Jesus?

Psalm 18:2
Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

We are held in the palm of God’s hand. And though the winds of change may be howling, we are protected as if we were inside a fortress or behind a shield.

Maybe we should look at these changes as something other than problems. After all, everything that happens on planet earth occurs because of God’s command (Lamentations 3:37).

And everything that God commands is ultimately for the good of His creation.

Romans 8:28
We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose.

As lovers of Christ, we have nothing to fear from the breathtakingly fast changing world. We can stand firm in the knowledge that all things will edify us and bring us to a closer walk with God.

And Just As God Doesn’t Change, Our Mission As Christians Does Not Change Either.

No matter what is happening in the world – upheavals in politics, the economy, or science – our mission is the same. We are to grow in our love of Christ every day. We are to grow in our love of our neighbors. This change in our hearts is stronger and more powerful than any change that can happen in the world.

And our mission to spread the Gospel of Christ also never changes (Matthew 28:18-20). By teaching others about Christ, we will glorify God and bring Him contentment.
