Isaiah Knew the Earth was Round and Why It Matters!

What did Isaiah the prophet know eight centuries before Jesus was born? And – MORE IMPORTANT – why should this amazing fact give you reason to rejoice? Let’s see what Isaiah said:

It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; Isaiah 40:22

Very simply, Isaiah the prophet knew that the earth was round. The book of Isaiah is the first ever reference to this fact. Even though early Greeks had theories that the Earth was a sphere (or a circle), the book of Isaiah beat them to the punch. And the Book Of Job adds to the mystery with this verse:

He stretches out the north over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing. Job 26:7, NKJV

It was Nicolaus Copernicus, born in 1473, who proved that earth was suspended in space. But the Book Of Job documented said it first. Get ready for this … the book of Job has been carbon-dated as the oldest book of the Bible: 3500 years old.

Why is this so significant? Because these Bible verses plainly point to the fact that the Bible is astounding. And that the information in it is more than beautifully written stories. It contains amazing knowledge that, scientifically speaking, should NOT have been knowable at the time of writing. This allows you to have something very important. Confidence! When the Bible can establish a scientific fact such as the earth is round. Or, when the Bible states that the earth floats in empty space. And all of this is stated hundreds of years before that information is known through science, you can be confident that the Bible is a document that contains TRUTH.

At the time those words were written, they would have seemed unbelievable – preposterous! But the writers knew better. This truth provides you with an amazing Bible fact. You can read the Bible confidently. You can read the Bible knowing that its wisdom can be trusted. And when those so-called rational people say that they don’t believe in God; they believe in science … you can look them in the eye knowing that your confidence in the Bible is superbly rational. But this wonderful knowledge does not make your life easier. Like any worthy knowledgeable endeavor, studying the Bible takes time, energy, and work. But the rewards are literally endless. And, unlike Copernicus, your journey will take you beyond the stars.
