Have you ever felt like you needed a secret weapon for living a better, more productive, and joyful life? If so, here it is …
YOU NEED TO GIVE IT A REST –
Observe The Sabbath, That Is!
The book of Genesis states that it took God six days to create absolutely everything. Then …
Genesis 2:3
And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it he rested from all his work which God had created and made.
So, after all His labors, God rested on the seventh day. Of course, when God created us, He precisely knew our strengths and limitations. One of those limitations: We need rest. And we need time to connect to God.
Five Simple Ways We Can Keep The Sabbath!
First, we can go to church services. Some might feel that attending a church service is too time consuming, but the benefits can be priceless. (And if you can’t attend church because of Covid concerns or other health reasons, there are usually online alternatives.)
Christ Jesus made it a point to attend public worship on the Sabbath. Take a look …
Luke 4:16
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and he entered, as his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read.
Second, we should rest from regular work (Exodus 31:15). Father God knows that His creatures need rest, along with spiritual enrichment. He created the sabbath for that reason.
Third, spend time with family, loved ones, and fellow Christians. Family, friends, and fellowship are a gift from God. They should be treasured and time with them is precious.
Fourth, spend time with God’s Word. The sabbath is a perfect day to read and study scripture. This investment in your spiritual progress will pay valuable dividends during the coming week.
Fifth, make sure to time travel. Of course, you can’t move forward or backward in time, but you can reflect over the past week and think about (aka. Plan) the week to come. Consider how your actions and intentions brought you closer to Christ during the past week. Plan how you can make the coming week as pleasing to God as possible.
Of course, we haven’t even touched upon time spent in prayer … in solitude … doing charitable work … and journaling.
God Created The Sabbath For YOU!
Father God created the sabbath for His people. The sabbath is meant to strength us, give us joy, and bless our lives. Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, kept the sabbath holy. So, keep the sabbath joyfully. It will do you good!
Mark 2:27-28
And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: so that the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath.
