Amen!
The danger with this word is that it is so often used, we might tend to pay it less attention and use it with less intension. This powerful word has several meanings depending on the context …
* Yes, I agree
* Let It Be So
* Praise God
* I Believe
Amen comes from the Hebrew word Emunah, which means faith. It can also mean trust, truth, and steady. Of course, scripture instructs us to use the word amen at the end of our prayers.
Philippians 4:20
Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever! Amen.
Its use allows us to inject our faith into prayer. And we know from scripture that faith is an all-important element in having our prayers answered.
Luke 18:42
Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight. Your faith has healed you.”
A False Teaching Concerning Amen!
If you’re in the habit of using the internet to gain more knowledge and wisdom about your Christian faith (and the fact that you’re reading this indicates that you are), you might stumble upon a false teaching concerning the word amen. That mistaken teaching is that amen comes from the name of the Egyptian god Amun.
This teaching is, of course, wrong. The word amen is a Hebrew word, while the origin of this mythical figure’s name comes from a completely different language. Yes, they may sound similar … but that’s like saying the American slang for mother – Ma – comes from the Chinese word for horse – also Ma.
Let Us Speak Amen To Glorify God!
We truly were created with the one purpose of glorifying God.
2 Corinthians 1:20
For however many are the promises of God, in him is the “Yes.” Therefore also through him is the “Amen”, to the glory of God through us.
When we worship and when we pray, we can use the word amen to infuse our worship with faith which glorifies Him.
Romans 4:20-21
Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn’t waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform.
So, let us shout amen with intention. Let the word fill our worship, prayer, and fellowship with more faith and trust. And let’s use the word to fulfill our purpose and bring God glory. Amen!
Psalms 106:48
Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel,
from everlasting even to everlasting!
Let all the people say, “Amen.”
Praise Yah!
